Welcome to our second Curating the Collection - a new regular feature for the VAPAUS blog and newsletter, where we interview watch aficionados whose collections we admire.
In our second interview, we spoke with Shane Snider (@watch_shane). Shane created the incredibly popular Facebook group Watcha Watch (now with nearly 8000 members) and website www.watchwatcha.com. As you might expect, Shane knows a thing or two about watches. Let's get into it...
If you could only keep 3 watches from your collection, which 3 would you keep?
I’d keep my Hamilton Intramatic 68. There was a lot of chatter about its size when it came out - 42mm vs. the 36mm of the original Chronomat it’s loosely based on. It works for me.
I’d also keep my bronze Anonimo Militare from 2013. It was the first release after a Swiss company bought out Anonimo Firenze. Interestingly, this was the last batch of cases produced in an Italian workshop. It’s a watch I really enjoy.
Last, I’d have to keep my 1930s Hamilton Clarke. It’s a super long rectangle case and it’s one of the last I kept from my vintage collection.
What's your biggest watch collecting regret?
I had this amazing mint Solid gold Hamilton Donald. It was engraved as a gift to the CEO of a now-closed tannery that produced leather for boots U.S. soldiers wore in WWII. I had planned on trying to find a piece of leather from the tannery to have a custom strap made. I really regret selling that one.
